Contrasts

Spikey fraser fir branches are spared the frosts and snowfalls by gracing our home - our Christmas centrepiece. C

Amaryllis opening under the blasting sun.  Crisp waves adorning each petal. M

Woodgrain

The Log Basket is steadily expanding. Stripped, kiln dried and sanded – a new army of log clocks stand by, awaiting completion before being launched on the website…C

An old log, dried out after decades under the sun. Each ring in the log splitting, forming what looks like a maze…M

Orange

Sadly, no flowers remain in our garden. My youngest has discarded this colourful felted beauty in favour of more sombre colours today, now that winter is descending. C

A simple common flower seems much more intricate with a macro lens on. So many shades… M

Creases

A dry, crumpled hydrangea flower is a reminder that summer is now a distant memory. The leaves on the trees have shrivelled and died, and now we wait patiently for Spring’s new growth amidst long cold and wet days.

They say too much exposure to the sun can cause premature wrinkles and creases on your skin… doubts? Ask this violet scorching under the strong southamerican sun.
-Dicen que mucha exposición al sol crea arrugas prematuras…ah no? preguntenle a esta violeta que se achicharra bajo el sol sudamericano. M

Pattern

Here in the Northern hemisphere, the forest floor  is sprinkled with these beautiful natural patterns –  hard and woody.  A sure sign that Christmas is coming… C

Nature’s repetitive pattern on a succulent plant. Like sharp nails reaching upwards. M

Water

The postman’s van is a welcome flash of colour in my otherwise grey, dismal and wet world today – altogether typical for this time of year.  C

Lack of water. In the southern parts of Argentina the soil hasn’t received any water for over 3 years. Climate change. M

Welcome!

Curious Nature inaugural post collage 490

A splash of sunshine yellow -to  warmly welcome you to Curious Nature, and our very first post!

It is a grey and dismal day here in the UK, but there are plenty of pockets of colour scattered here and there; little reminders that Nature is continuing to quietly beaver away… doing her thing and doing it well. A timely post, too, as Mariana wings her way to sunnier climes in Argentina. You’ll be there soon, M! Enjoy! C
