Over time, I collected and stored a veritable treasure trove of fabrics, buttons, beads and trims. But what to do with them? I couldn’t part with them…so I waited…safe in the knowledge that eventually, one day, I would put my collection to good use. In 2008, the right time arrived. Inspiration took hold, and the fancypicnic range of handmade textile jewellery began. Incorporating an array of fabrics and often vintage embellishments, the textural pieces are created with love and attention to detail.
All the while, my camera has called to me. I take photographs because I just love looking – there is always something to see, and I want to capture it, no matter how mundane. It might simply be the recording of the sparkling dew drops caught in a spider’s web in the morning light…it might even be my daughters’ stripey socked feet and brightly coloured shoes that shout out loud to be snapped. Whatever the subject matter, taking pictures makes me happy…it brings a smile to my face.
Embarking on this project with Mariana is exciting – we will discover a lot about ourselves, each other and our surroundings. It’s going to be interesting!
